You have spent a lot of time and effort working out, only to get in and be unsure what to eat. The easiest thing you could do is eat junk food and been done with it. But, here are a few suggestions for a quick fix of healthy snacks, which won't leave you feeling guilty after a workout.

1. Nuts

Easy, tasty and convenient. Nuts are considered high in fat, but they are a good source for different nutrients such as magnesium and vitamin E. They are high in fibre meaning that they will help you have a healthier gut. There are many different kinds to choose from just eat to your own tastes.

2. Edamame beans in salt

These are immature soybeans packed full of fibre and protein, which is good for repairing muscles after a workout. Best way to eat them, is to heat them up and cover in a bit of salt for taste. They can be sold frozen so all you need to do is boil, steam or fry and will be ready in no time.

3. Strawberries and yoghurt

Simply, dip strawberries in yoghurt and freeze for 20 minutes and you have one of the tastiest snacks on the list. If you want to go the extra mile for health benefits, use Greek yoghurt. It naturally has more proteins than most yogurts, which is especially helpful after a long tiring session.

4. Dried fruits

If you want to ward off sugar but still want a healthy snack, this is the option for you. Dried fruit is naturally high in natural sugar, but can still contain a good amount of fibre. The key with this snack is portion control as it is easy to eat quite a lot in a short amount of time.

5. Dark chocolate

This guilty pleasure can still make the list, but there is a catch. If you must have it, it is important to go with a brand which has a higher percentage of cocoa. It contains more nutrients such as magnesium and potassium. Yet it should be eaten in moderation, as it can still come with a high amount of sugar.

6. Seeds

This easy snack requires no preparation at all. Seeds are a good natural source of healthy fats, fibre and vitamins. They can easily be added to any other snack or meal such as yoghurts or salads, so if you don't particularly enough them on their own, there is a lot of alternative you can have.

9. Apples in honey

This one is my personal guilty pleasure after a workout. Apples naturally have a sweeter taste, but taste even better dipped in honey. Apples are great for vitamin C and surprisingly, honey still works as a better alternative to sugar and is a natural sweetener.

As a dietitian and frequently irritated by the scientific inaccuracies of such articles, I am impressed with this one. Plenty of good suggestions.
