Time to start counting down the days to Christmas and the best way to do that is to sit and chill to these festive films.

1. It's A Wonderful Life

Starting of the list, with this 1947 classic about a depressed man and the intervention of a guardian angel and take him on a emotional journey to show him how life would be without him in it.

2. A Charlie Brown Christmas

This Peanuts tale brings all the favourite characters together for this festive feature. Charlie Brown is out to search for the true meaning of Christmas and is always a worthwhile watch.

3. Polar Express

All aboard with your tickets! It's one boy's adventure on an unusual train ride to the North Pole, seeing that the belief for Christmas will never truly fade away.

4. Home Alone + Home Alone 2

Both of these had to make the list as this comedic classic will forever remain funny and ridiculous. One child is left behind by his family who go on holiday, and tries to protect their home from a pair of burglars.

5. Gremlins

One cute gremlin and three broken rules leads to one town being invaded by the evil gremlins with his owner trying the save the town from the mistake he made.

6. Die Hard

This action movie rams up the pace with a New York detective trying to save hostages on Christmas Eve as a building has been seized by terrorists.

7. The Muppets' Christmas Carol

A modern twist with everyone's favourite puppets acting and singing in their own adaptation of Charles Dickens' story.

8. Elf

In Buddy's words, "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear." And Elf is one of the best movies for this, in a tale about a human who was raised as an elf and goes back to New York to find his father.

9. Miracle on 34th Street

Santa Claus is going to court! Both a lawyer and his daughter become determined prove that a man claiming to be Santa is the real thing.

10. Arthur Christmas

This film shows a technological way that Santa manages to deliver all the presents in one night. Yet, Santa Claus's son Arthur makes one fatal mistake and then is left with the mission to return a little girl's gift just in time for Christmas.

11. A Christmas Story

This is the odd twist of a movie about a child for an adult audience. In 1940s America, a young boy is determined to convince his family and teacher for the one thing he wants most of all.... a BB gun.

12. Silent Night, Deadly Night

If you are tired at looking at Christmas with a rose-tinted view, this movie will offer that and more. This horror follows a teenager who's parents were murdered and after being abused, he goes on a murder spree dressed as Santa.
