All too often nowadays we hear about subscription services like Sky and Netflix. Their big budget shows dazzle us and cover almost any genre we can imagine. But this content isn’t free and sometimes we have to take a break from subscriptions when other costs arise. But does that mean there’s nothing out there to enjoy without subscription entertainment? No, not at all. Here are our top 5 shows that are available on Freeview and catch-up right now.

5. Louis Theroux – BBC iPlayer

Who doesn’t love Louis Theroux? There’s something about his open-minded attitude and relentless questions that bring some humour to some very serious topics. If you’re in the mood for a great documentary, or a binge of them, BBC iPlayer has an extensive back-catalogue of Louis’ shows.

4. The Great British Bake Off – All4

Great British Bake Off presenters, Sandi Toksvig, Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith and Noel Fielding, sat in director's chairs in front of the Great British Bake Off tent.

Haven’t caught up with the new series of GBBO yet? Well, why not? Whilst the original series are now all available on Netflix, the two new series are ready to stream from All4.

3. Friday Night Dinner – All4

Characters Adam, Jonny, Martin and Jackie pose in dressing-gowns in their family kitchen.

A favourite for all of us ad Mic Up, Friday Night Dinner stars Simon Bird from ‘The Inbetweeners’. ‘Friday Night Dinner’ is a great laugh and the only place to experience it all is from All4.

2. Gavin and Stacey – BBC iPlayer

Characters Nessa Jenkins, Stacey West, Gavin Shipman and Smithy posing, with Gavin and Stacey embracing.

‘Gavin and Stacey’ is probably up there with some of the greatest British sitcoms ever, at least in our books! No matter how many times you’ve watched through all three series, you can always go back around again!

1. Doctor Who – BBC iPlayer

‘Doctor Who’ is now into its 11th series since the 2005 reboot. Now with Jodie Whittaker at the controls of the TARDIS, the show feels fresh and exciting. The new series is currently airing on BBC One every Sunday, with the previous episodes available for catch-up. But if you’re looking for a bit more nostalgia, every episode since 2005 is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
